Meet the Program Staff

Tim & Cherie Meals

Tim & Cherie Meals

Tim Meals has been affiliated with THE WILDS for over 25 years. He has been a camper, summer staff member, worked on nine month contracted staff, and is now a member of the full-time staff. Prior to joining the full-time staff in 1999, Tim was a Christian school teacher and coach in Kansas City, Missouri. He now serves as the Building Use Manager and Junior Boot Camp Director. Tim’s wife, Cherie, is a registered nur se and serves as the JBC nurse in the summer and assists in the Health Service Building at camp throughout the rest of the year.

Tim and Cherie have twin daughters and a son.

Bob & Sarah Roberts

Bob & Sarah Roberts

Bob Roberts, also known as "Mr. Bob," grew up in a Christian home. However, it wasn't until the summer of 1995 that he trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation. Shortly after his conversion, Bob was persuaded that God wanted him to spend his life spreading the Good News that changed his life. Bob has always enjoyed working with juniors, and God has opened the door for him to invest his life full-time into that special age group. After graduating from Northland Baptist Bible College, he founded Kids 4 Truth, an organization focused on sharing important truths about God to kids in a dynamic, captivating, memorable way. His wife, Sarah, grew up in a Christian home and was saved at the age of four. She attended Northland Baptist Bible College where she received a degree in Church Ministries. Immediately upon graduation, she began working full-time in the Northland Camp Office as the program secretary. Sarah met Bob when he was a Junior Camp Speaker for two weeks at Northland Camp. Bob and Sarah were married in April, 2007, and Sarah now enjoys assisting Bob as he directs Kids 4 Truth.

God & I Time

“God and I Time” is a 15 minute block of time we set aside every day for our campers to read the Bible and learn about God on their own. We provide them with a study guide for each day that goes right along with what they have just heard preached in chapel. It is our goal to encourage every camper to continue in this habit when they get home from camp. God’s Word is our blueprint for life and we must know what the Word says if we are going to become more like our Savior.

Lunch

Serving 800 teens, 200 juniors, 300 summer staff and 150 sponsors three times a day is no small task. Our kitchen staff does an excellent job of providing nutritious and delicious meals that will satisfy even the hungriest camper. A meal in the Dining Hall during summer camp could be described as the loudest meal in the country. Cabin cheers during the meal and team cheers at the end of the meal provide plenty of excitement.

Chapel

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon the campers will take part in a Chapel service. This is an opportunity for the speaker of the week to really zero in on a specific topic that young people are dealing with. Topics in the past have focused on how to study the Bible, Christian living, and many others.

God and I Time Follow-up

God and I Time Follow-up is an opportunity for the counselor to question his campers regarding what they have learned in their personal God and I Time. Campers are encouraged to ask questions about what they have just studied in order to further understand the Scriptures. You will find this happening all over the campsite.

Free Time

Each afternoon the campers have an opportunity to try and get to all of the available free time activities. Good luck! There is more to do then they will be able to do in one week. Check out our activities page to see all of the many exciting things to do at camp.

Funtime

On Wednesday night we have Funtime instead of a game. Funtime has become something that every camper looks forward to. Crazy songs and skits combine for an hour of laughter that is based on the theme for the summer.

Evening Service

Our evening service is the highlight and culmination of the day. Everything done prior is seeking to prepare hearts for the preaching of the Word. After several group songs, the campers get to hear music from the counselor choir and others on our staff. The campers are then challenged directly from the Word regarding their relationship with Christ. Our mission at the Wilds is to give the Truth of God with the Love of God so lives can be changed for the glory of God. We trust every camper will see Christ in their time here at camp.

Barracks Devotions

Each night before bed, the counselor has an opportunity to share a short 5 minute devotional. Many times it will be a camper who ends up sharing what God has been teaching him in the services. The cabin will then have prayer together, shut out the lights and get ready for another big day of camp.

Health Services

  • We have several registered nurses on campsite and at least one nurse on call 24 hours a day. Special instructions will be given at camp for administering specialized medications if needed. Our Health Service staff is capable of taking care of most minor injuries and illnesses. We have a great working relationship with the hospital in town should there be the need for anything our Health Service people are not set up to handle.
